Miracle Baby

Here is the long story short of the pregnancy so far.... It has been an emotional roller coaster to say the least. At 12 weeks the baby was diagnosed with a Cystic Hygroma which is a fluid filled fold on the back of the neck- don't look it up online- it's not something you want to read about- the stories are very sad. She was given just a 5% chance of survival, the doctor said most likely he would die before the pregnancy hit 20 weeks. We had every test done- including a very invasive CVS test. Most of the tests were chromosomal (which is how we found out early on we are having a girl), we also had genetic counseling. There was at least a 60% chance of there being a genetic issue which would have meant almost certain demise.

We shocked the doctors and all the tests came back normal. She beat every projection and shocked every doctor with how strong she is. We went to a specialist at UNC and after a few appointments and the Hygroma not growing the doctors have given us the okay to plan ahead and assume that things will be okay! The chance of fetal demise is now low and the hygroma is within 2mm of being within normal range.

It was a lot to take in and process, it felt like a huge chunk of the pregnancy was spent in such fear that we didn't get to enjoy it at all. From 12-20 weeks we were just waiting to get to the next appointment to hear the baby's heartbeat to make sure she was doing okay. Now that we are nearing the 3rd trimester we have put together the crib, I painted the nursery, everything is all set up and we even went so far as to order diapers. It has been a long and hard road but we are finally to the point of celebration. Our next set of appointments are the week after Thanksgiving.
I am already at 27 weeks feeling a lot of back pain and general discomfort which I didn't experience until MUCH later in both of the other pregnancies. It got so uncomfortable that I went to the doctor for an extra appointment to make sure that I didn't have a UTI or was going into labor. Luckily neither was the case and instead it is just the way that my body is dealing with pregnancy, apparently it gets worse with each subsequent pregnancy. I have my glucose test in my next appointment also which will likely mean dietary changes before Christmas.
I'm hoping from here on out things continue to look up with our Miracle baby.

Baby Announcement!

We have a little announcement... we are expecting baby #3! It has been a rough pregnancy which is why it has taken such a long time to post (I will do a future post on the pregnancy up until this point). I am currently at 25 1/2 a weeks, which is only 2 weeks from the third trimester. We are having a girl (who currently is about 2 pounds), we are still finalizing the full name but she is due to be born February 22, 2014!
