First in Flight

We are headed to MA tomorrow. Yes we are flying regardless of what the Vice Prez says about pig flu. When you think of how many people die in car crashes every year it is way more dangerous to drive, just to give it a little perspective. Who knows maybe enough people will cancel their flight plans that we will be able to have a lot of room on the plane.

It will be Ryan's first flight! I hope he does okay, one never knows. It is the first of what looks like many flights this summer so I hope he is a good traveler. Updates soon.

Lucky Lady

Have you ever had a moment where everything just seemed terrible? I mean nothing is really wrong but you feel in a funk and ugh you just can't deal. I had one of those tonight.
Do knew just what to do.. he came home from work and took me to Chic-Fil-a and we made martinis and watched a funny movie.
Some guys give flowers, mine gives me just what I need. I am one lucky woman.
Not only is Don great but I also got a few emails/ messages from friends I don't get to talk to on a daily basis. Ah the bliss of everyday life, makes even the biggest baby hissy fit/melt down not so bad.

Everything for a Reason

I know a lot of people don’t like to talk about personal/ medical issues on their blogs… I do because I always forget to tell someone something and then I mention it later and they have no idea what I am talking about… so here is my personal/ medical blog entry…

I have noticed that most of the things in my life happen for a pretty obvious reason once I take a step back and really think about it. I have been having pretty bad back problems recently, so bad that I had to go to a new doctor. She is great with a background in sports medicine. She is also very thorough. She tested for everything when I had my first appointment, it was an extreme physical with blood tests etc. (my regular doctor hadn’t done this in a long time even though I had gone in a few times). Apparently I have a thyroid issue which explains a lot of things I’ve had that I just couldn’t explain or get answers about. She has put me on medication and will keep an eye on me to make sure I am on the right dosage etc. So the good news is that she caught it early before it caused any major problems. I hope I can get back to the gym soon (I am only allowed to walk right now until my back is better), but I hope that this is the last step that will lead me back down the path of feeling healthy again. It’s funny how something like a back problem can lead to a completely different diagnosis, who would have thought it?

Spring Festival

Spring has Sprung! We went to an outdoor Spring Festival. It was really hot (90 degrees) so we didn't last long, but Ryan liked seeing all the people, and he got to eat a cookie and drink juice which just about made his life :) Here are a few pictures.

Almost Walking

Ryan has decided he wants to walk. Yesterday he made it 4 steps. Today he is really determined and keeps attempting, he still doesn't have it down but he does have the motivation. I will keep you posted, and I will try to catch it on video.

Visitors From Texas

Ryan was lucky and got to hang out with his friend from Texas. They got along great and even shared toys a bit. I am super sad we only got to see them for a day, we hope they come back soon. If not we are going to have to come visit them!

I have known Nicki for 19 years and our babies were born only 1 day apart... crazy.

On the Mend

I am on the mend, yay! I am on the right meds now and I can walk and even hold Ryan. I went to a new doctor who was amazing. Second opinions are key. We even went to a playgroup yesterday!
I hope everyone had a great Earth Day yesterday, we are going to a street festival this weekend to celebrate. Since I am a little bit picture happy I'm sure there will be many pictures! It is going to be 91 degrees so I hope I don't forget sunscreen this time.

Back Problems

I am no longer on the mend... today my back started hurting so badly that it felt like I had a broken hip. I am going to another doctor tomorrow, hopefully I will get something out of this visit. I'll keep you posted since I can't walk, it gives me a lot of time with the computer.

Attention Required

Ryan has learned to say "hi" and he loves to say it while we are out in the world. If we are at a coffee shop or some place similar where I will put him on the floor, he will crawl over to a group of people, sit right next to them, give them a big smile and say "hi."
He knows exactly how to get attention from people. In the grocery store if he is in the cart he tries to get people to give him eye contact, he knows if he gets it he is in with them. Then he smiles and waves and sometime says hi. He is very good at picking up on body language and so he knows exactly who to pick out of the crowd in order to assure he will get attention.
I swear he is too smart for his own good.

New Shoes! Ryan has really large feet and keeps growing out of his shoes, these are a size 4. He has only managed to take them off once (some others he can have off in like 10 seconds).

No Sick Days for Mommy

Sorry readers I have become a bad blogger. I've been having a hard time the past few days doing the basics and so blogging has fallen by the wayside. I did something to my back, something very, very bad. The doctor said it is a muscle spasm. Granted the doctor didn’t seem to believe me that anything was wrong so who knows. She also said “you need to avoid picking anything up over 10 pounds for the next two weeks”… Uh… apparently she was never a stay at home mom. Well I seem to be on the mend, I can’t walk very far but I can stand up now so that is an improvement. Hopefully by the time Don has to go back to work on Monday I will be able to pick up Ryan again. So I'm back, and I will try to think of something fun or at least something somewhat interesting soon!

Happy Easter!

Ryan wore his super cute Easter Outfit. He didn't like the fact that it was shorts because it is harder for him to crawl (hard on the knees). So now whenever he crawls and his knees hurt he picks up his knees and "crawls" on his hands and feet... I haven't caught it on camera but it's super cute. We call it his "spider."

Uncle David came and hung out with us a lot this weekend. This always makes Ryan happy. Ryan takes much longer naps when uncle David is around (apparently they play hard) which makes mom happy. (and I got to go to the spa on Friday when Uncle David babysat).

The 'rents at Easter dinner... pictures like this don't happen often so I thought I should post. FYI Don is taller then me, he just slouches :)

Grandma brought a great new sorting toy which Ryan loved trying to figure out.

Ryan got to eat mashed potatoes which he thought were tasty. He didn't like them on his fingers, so he convinced grandma to put the food in his mouth for him. Wow, he really knows how to play the game. Right as I was telling her he would eat it without her help if she just left him alone with the food I swear to you he looked up at her and said something that sounded exactly like "grandma." I have to give it to the kid, he is a pro. After that she would give him anything he wanted (and put it in his mouth if that is what he wanted).

I have a picture with Ryan and the Easter Bunny at the mall, I have to scan it in so I can't post it now, but it will be included in a later posting.

He Grew Again!

He grew again. Scary how fast it happens.

Sarah Cate!

Sarah Cate came to visit last weekend. It was great to have her here and Ryan was happy to have some extra attention (he can’t get enough). We went to a race Don was running in and a birthday party (as seen in the last blog entry). It was very relaxing and except for my heinous allergies it was a great weekend. We miss you already Sarah Cate!

Ryan got to go to his friend Tyler's birthday party today and had so much fun. Here are a few pictures of Ryan exploring. (I'm only posting pictures of Ryan because some people don't like pictures of their children on the internet... I swear there were other kids there)

And of course there has to be one picture of him eating cupcakes! You can tell by the face that he was enjoying himself. It is going to be hard to get him to eat peas after this one!

Chores

This is what I'm talking about. We all know Ryan likes to do laundry... now he can do floors too! My job just got a lot easier. Now if only he could reach the cabinets I could get him to do the dishes too.

Hair Trim

Some days I am a better mother then other days... Today I decided that Ryan's hair was in his eyes so I decided to give it a trim. Instead of searching for the sharper scissors I decided to use the ones that were where I knew they were. His hair is a little wonky... but hey at least it isn't in his eyes. It turned out better then it could have! I'll post pictures, it is just a trim so you might not be able to tell (for my sake don't look too closely ;) )
