Baby Shower

I had an amazing baby shower today! But I failed as a blogger and forgot my camera and therefore have no pictures to show you. I have great friends that provided lovely conversation, food, gifts and didn't subject me to any of the gross shower games (i.e. identify what is in the diaper). So thank you to all of you wonderful ladies: Leigh, Jess and Laura for hosting and Amy, Liz, Crissy (+ Gwen), and Mom for coming and celebrating the day with me. I missed the other ladies that were a little too far away to be able to attend but you were there in spirit! Less then 8 weeks until Audrey will be joining this great community of women.

Ryan's Birthday Party

Ryan had his birthday party this weekend and it was a success if I do say so myself. Our friend Jay hosted at his house, which if you have ever gotten a group of toddlers together you know that this is a true act of kindness- especially when cupcakes and markers are involved.

We had a BBQ, Jay was in charge of the grill (his new toy) which made hosting much easier for us. The sun came out right when people showed up so we were able to run the kids around and burn some energy. The sun lasted through the food and when people had finished eating the clouds opened. Luckily it was time to go inside for cupcakes by that point and we broke out the art supplies. The party was a complete success and Ryan seemed to have a really good time. We had such great friends come, it is always great to see everyone (a few key players were missing but we hope to see them soon).

Making Birthday Cupcakes

In preparation for Ryan's birthday party we made cupcakes! Ryan LOVES cooking and so he took over the majority of the work. Ryan is still in his PJ's for these pictures because it is about 7am, but we needed them to have time to cool completely so they wouldn't melt our homemade cream cheese frosting.
FYI he enjoyed eating them as much as he enjoyed making them!

Ryan's "Sand Table"

Ryan received a sand table and sand toys from Grandma and Grandpa for his birthday. When he saw it on the porch (in the box) he insisted that we open it right there. He was so pitiful pretending to scoop our non-existent sand that I filled the table with dried rice and beans which luckily we did have on hand. He was such a big fan I think we might stick to the dried food :) It was perfect timed gift since we seem to be experiencing a week of rain which limits our park outings and we needed some outside time.

3 Double Ear Infections

Now Don has a double ear infection! That's right EVERY single ear in our house has been infected in the last week!!!!! 3 double ear infections.

Luckily Ryan is back at school (he was actually excited about it.. although he would never admit it). The house is coming back together, laundry, dishes, disinfecting etc... So Ryan and I are on the mend and hopefully Don caught his ear infection early enough that he won't suffer like we did. Luckily we are going through this before there is a newborn in the house!

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mothers Day all you moms out there! Don and Ryan made me blueberry muffins (with real sugar) this morning and gave it to me in bed. I was sick for the whole day so all the other plans (baseball game and picnic) went out the window but I have been given a rain check for both.
I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to be a mom especially to such a great kid! I can't believe next year I will be celebrating with 2 kids!

Sick Pictures

We are really and truly on the mend now. I am glad we went to the doctors office (like 4 times) during the week so we could get everything we needed to recover this weekend. Below is a picture of everything Ryan and I have had to take to get to the point of getting any better. The picture below that is of Ryan on his worst day. Not to worry though, today he was riding around on his play train wearing his fire hat if that gives you any idea of how he is doing.

Day.... who knows it's been a long time

I know I said I wouldn't post but... Ryan has now be diagnosed with a double ear infection (one just starting the other one is pretty bad). We are starting on antibiotics which means probably 2/3 more days of this.

*Update- I have now also been diagnosed with a double ear infection! Who would have thought that an ear infection could be contagious? I am now on two antibiotics... hopefully this is it.

Day 4- Improvement

I feel much better, I would probably even be able to sleep through the night if Ryan was doing okay! Unfortunately Ryan isn't doing so well. He has both a cough and a sore throat which if you have ever had the combination, you know how terrible it is. Everytime he coughs you can see the pain in his eyes. Luckily it is causing him to drink lots of liquid which should help in the recovery. Hopefully today will be the begining of the turn around. Unless anything drastically changes I won't be posting about it again (sorry I have been so detailed, I have been stuck in the house since last week... not a lot of live audience).

Day 3.. and it gets worse

I woke up at 2:00am thinking about how that moment was the worse I had felt so far, but not to be outdone Ryan woke up at 3:00am with a 102 fever. He laid in bed with us for over an hour before asking to go back to bed. It of course happened the day after they recalled all brand name children's medicine used to lower fevers. Luckily Ryan just wanted to snuggle and drink water, and then went back to bed without a fuss.
This morning was rough for everyone. Ryan is congested, with a fever and seems to be slightly losing his voice. But Ryan and I are determined to spend the day watching movies and generally relaxing and enjoying some downtime as much as possible. We are drinking lots of liquids and taking vitamins. Hopefully this is a quick bug (the fever is already down to 100) and Ryan and I will be feeling better by tonight.

Day 2 in the Quest for Health

Day two of antibiotics - still no improvement. If anything I feel more mentally and physically exhausted then I did yesterday, impressive considering I have spent all day in bed watching home improvement shows.

Pregnancy Has Not Been Kind

If you have tried to get in touch with me in the last few days and found me MIA there is a reason. I apparently have had a bladder infection. Now normal sick is fine, but pregnancy sick takes it to a whole new level. It's hard to differentiate between what is a normal third trimester symptom, a non-normal third trimester symptom and a sickness. So the stress level goes way up, it feels like anything could be wrong and there are two people at stake.

The problems started Wednesday night and have been on and off ever since. Whenever it would be convenient to go to the doctor I would feel okay or at least no worse and the second it hit "the office is now closed" time I would be hit with another wave. I felt nauseous, my stomach hurt in a crampy way and I was exhausted... now exhausted is par for the course with pregnancy, it is the other two symptoms that were the head scratchers. Last night Don finally made me call my doctor on call, apparently three nights in a row of me telling him I felt like death were enough. The doctor at 10pm on a Friday night was concerned but aside from me packing up and heading to the hospital there wasn't a lot he could do, it didn't feel like labor to me so he said just to keep an eye on it and if it got any worse or if it started to feel like labor to come in. That's the thing when you are not at your due date and having any sort of pregnancy issues, it could be a sign of something BAD... but it isn't easy to tell what exactly is going on.

So after my phone call with him I went to bed, I had a fairly uneventful nights sleep except my mind was racing even when sleeping about what could be going on. When I woke up I was convinced I had a bladder infection. I don't know why, but I was convinced. I have never had one before, nor did I really know the symptoms but I knew. So I did what every sick person does (whether they admit to it or not) and googled 'bladder infection during pregnancy' .. most of the symptoms matched. Don called my general practitioner who could squeeze me into her Saturday hours (yes that's right I have a doctor with Saturday hours). She tested me and promptly put me on antibiotics for a bladder infection. the good news is that it was caught early enough that it didn't turn into a kidney infection which could have posed a serious risk to both me a baby. Maybe I should have gone to medical school instead of law school....

Hopefully I am on the mend now. Between the regular pregnancy symptoms (exhaustion, nausea, hunger, constant peeing etc), my thyroid (which thankfully has not gotten worse during pregnancy), my ever fluctuating blood sugar/ gestational diabetes, and now a bladder infection I feel like my body has been put through the ringer with this pregnancy. Hopefully the rest is uneventful and the labor goes smoothly! 11 more weeks.
