Day at the Museum

We spent a super fun day at the childrens museum, Ryan liked the painting and water play the most, it was a great way to spend the morning, I have a feeling we will be back soon.

Playing with Food

Why would they say not to play with your food when it is obviously so much fun? Eventually I'm going to try jell-o with him, but I think it will wait until it is a little cooler outside.... it seems like an outside sort of food :)

Haircut

Ryan went to the salon to get his first professional haircut (ie not me hacking away with scissors). It ages him about 8 months :( my baby is all grown up.

Notice it is the same haircut as his Uncle David...

Monkey See Monkey Do

You can actually witness the moment a child understands something for the first time, when the light clicks on and from then on they innately understand that thing, that knowledge becomes a part of who they are.

This week Ryan has learned to mimic actions, sure he has done it a little before but this week he started doing it with everything. I have to watch exactly how and what I do now. A few days ago Ryan saw me dusting a light, now if he gets a hold of the duster he runs up to the light and reaches up because he is trying to dust it.... this is very cute by the way.

You want to know something that isn't as cute?.... today I threw my shoes over the baby gate so they wouldn't be in the way. I really thought nothing of it. Ryan however took it as a sign that he should put his things over the gate. An hour later all his toys had been individually put over the gate and were sitting on the floor on the other side.

I apparently need to be VERY careful about what I say and do from now on... I can only imagine what it will be like when he can mimic what I say!

Learning to use a spoon

As humans almost everything we do must be learned, we come almost entirely un-programmed. As adults we forget how everything we do was taught to us either by our caretakers or simple observation, even the most simple things such as eating with utensils.

Ryan has discovered the spoon, okay he has known about the spoon for sometime but he has recently become pretty adamant that he feed himself. Ryan has always been a kid who doesn't want help... if he holds your hand it is to lead you NOT to be led :) Now this philosophy has moved on to eating.

Now I know most people would put their kids in the highchair for this... but I am a risk taker. Here is our adventure with a spoon this morning (note to self... apple sauce is easier to clean then yogurt, something I obviously didn't understand).

Fire Truck

The Fire Department came to a local stree fair and let kids (and adults) play on the truck and ask questions. Ryan loved the big truck (when he wasn't trying to run away), they even let him sit in the drivers seat. They also gave him a Jr. Fire Department sticker and plastic fire hat. This is one of those activities that Ryan liked this year and next year he will probably love.

15 Month Appointment

Ryan had his 15 month appointment today! Can you believe 15 months already?
Here are his stats:
He weighs 25 pounds 4 ounces (60th Percentile)
He is 31 1/2" in length (60th Percentile)
His head of course is 97th percentile at 19 3/4"

They said he was developing perfectly! He had to get one shot (they wanted to give him more but that is another story). He handled it really well and I think he thought getting the band aid made getting the shot worth it. We went out for ice cream after the appointment, he was a big fan and laughed all the way home.

Just the Two of Us... we can make it if we try

We had quite the week. Don had to take a business trip and was gone all week. While I am used to being home all day with Ryan I am not used to having dinner/ bedtime and wakeup all to myself. Since Ryan has been born I have literally been alone with Ryan one night and that was when Don moved my brother from Chicago.
This week was an interesting time, luckily he got up later and later as the week went on (5:45, 6:20, 7:15, 7:20, 8:30). Yes 5:45 is too early to even talk about. I really enjoyed the time alone with him but I started to appreciate the little things Don does like get up in the mornings so I get a few extra minutes of sleep or going running with him when he gets home from work so I get a few minutes to myself. I also missed the time after Ryan goes to sleep where I have someone to talk to about the day, eat dinner with and watch movies with. So I am super glad he is back home!

This week Ryan is getting to spend a lot of time with his friend Mya which we are super excited about. Ryan gets both Mya and dad… life is looking up!

Growth Spurt

Last week Ryan had a HUGE growth spurt. He ate the biggest meal he has ever eaten (probably 2x the amount that I eat in a meal) and then went to bed. When he woke up in the morning he didn't fit into his clothes! It was crazy. They were too short and didn't button anymore. You could literally see that he had lost the baby look over night.

That day I decided to go to shopping. I got Ryan into his clothes but he was fighting me so much that I didn't get a chance button his pants and decided that I would just do it when I got him out of the car. It was only when I was already at the store that I realized his pants didn't fit! I couldn't button them! Luckily we were shopping at a clothing store so I went to the kids department and got him a pair of shorts so he didn't have to walk around the store with his pants undone. Oops :)

Cookie Monster

This is why you don't give a kid a chocolate chip cookie near anything that you worry about getting ruined (and why I am particularly happy we have hardwood floors).

Just Waking Up

I usually wake up in the morning a mess, too scared to look in the mirror. I would kill Don if ever he took a picture of me in that state. Ryan however does not have the luxury of keeping dad away. This morning Don decided to take a picture of Ryan RIGHT after waking up. He is super cute and was a good sport about it but at the same time he was a total mess. Poor thing can't even open both his eyes all the way, and look at that hair! I love it :)
